Other Funding Resources

Course Incubator Grants

The University Center for Teaching and Learning offers annual grants to radically redesign large enrollment classes to increase the success of our students. Projects focus on transformative design of an entire course across multiple sections when appropriate.

Innovation in Education Awards

Innovation in Education Awards support projects by faculty members for the development of enhanced and innovative teaching techniques and materials that will strengthen the teaching mission of the University. The program seeks ideas that focus on experiential or active learning; innovative, discipline-based approaches to teaching and learning; technology-enhanced learning; and data-driven approaches to the design or assessment of curricular innovation. The Innovation in Education Awards are on a two-year cycle and will be offered next in 2021-22.

Open Education Resource Grants

To support the development of open educational resources, the Provost provides funding for projects that will enhance the educational experiences of Pitt students and provide these faculty with the ability to customize their course materials. Proposals are invited annually from faculty for projects to adapt, adopt and/or create open education resources for an existing course.

Pitt Momentum Funds

The Pitt Momentum Funds restructure the University’s suite of internal funding programs (Central Research Development Fund, Social Science Research Initiative, and Special initiative to Promote Scholarly Activities in the Humanities) and add a new SVCR/Provost Fund to provide allocations for research seeding, teaming, and scaling grants.

Year of Engagement

The Year of Engagement is an unprecedented opportunity to position the University of Pittsburgh as a global leader in engagement. The Funding Committee invites students, staff and faculty to build partnerships that confront challenges and co-create solutions at the institutional, local, regional, statewide, national or international levels in the 2020-21 academic year and beyond.
